BABYLON SWING

NEW YORK meets BERLIN

The great popularity of the ARD television series Babylon Berlin shows the immense power of fascination that Berlin of the 1920s/30s still has on us today.

It was a time when the city's life was characterized by crime, luxury, drugs and excess: "Babylon" - the biblical term for the den of iniquity. At that time, Berlin also resembled a witch's cauldron musically, because the new, upbeat swing rhythm that had emerged in New Orleans soon made its way via Chicago and New York to the German capital, where it unleashed a hitherto unknown dance hype.

Like a big bang, the BABYLON-SWING at the beginning of the last century virtually sent millions of people into ecstasy.

And the SWING from America also swept Berlin along! The new distribution channels "record" and "sound film", as well as the ever-increasing demand also from shows and radio stations for the "new light music" promoted this unstoppable wave. Peter Fleischhauer and his acclaimed King Of Swing Orchestra now create a show of the extra class, which combines the music of America with the German hits of that time. Embedded in a specially composed light design, with dancers, singers and the well-known host Uli Wewelsiep, the audience is taken on a journey into the fascinating world of that time!

With MUSIC BY Scott Joplin (The Entertainer), W.C. Handy (St. Louis Blues), George Gershwin (Rhapsody In Blue), Jerome Kern (Showboat), Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman (Sing, Sing, Sing), Kurt Weill (The Threepenny Opera/Mack The Knife), Werner- Richard Heymann (Irgendwo auf der Welt), Walter Kollo (Wenn ein Mädel einen Herrn hat) Friedrich Hollaender (Falling In Love Again/Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt), Theo Mackeben (Die Nacht ist nicht allein zum Schlafen da ) Teddy Stauffer (Goody Goody)

"BABYLON SWING - New York meets Berlin" raises the curtain on a passionate show with a magical atmosphere!
